LIKE TYPE

From these we had brought in we had to choose our worse dislike and our best like design piece.

WORST DISLIKE
  •  Dull
  • Tacky
  • Meaningless
  • Composition (Stet-up of strobes)
  • Effects
BEST LIKE
  • Intricate
  • Hand Generated
  • Simplicity of Shapes
  • Entwining image & type
  • Composition (Well Prepared)

Words use to describe our likes within the class:
  • Illustrative
  • Simple
  • Relatable?
  • Clever?
  • Clean
  • Symmetrical
  • Hand Rendered?
  • Minimal
  • Sophisticated
  • Interesting?
  • Crisp
  • Textured
  • Harmonised
  • Organic
Words used to describe our dislikes within the class:
  • Blurry
  • Cluttered
  • Random
  • Illegible
  • Boring
  • Grainy
  • Dull
  • Cheesy
  • Inconsistent
  • Silly
  • Confusing
  • Cheap/Tacky
  • Weird
  • Colourful
  • Complicated
These are all ascetically driven responses, audiences can have positive & negative responses & its not always things we like.
Therefore we could receive subjective responses if its a subjective design.

Then we had to put all our images in to separate piles and read out what each person got for ours and see the comparisons and difference if any within our keyword task.

Then we had to do keywords for another persons two worst & best images. Heres mine:

HAIR DYE KIT

SKATEBOARDING PHOTO

Skateboarding Photo:
  • Atmospherical
  • Simple
  • Clean
  • Gradiant
  • Sophisicated
  • Crisp
Hair Dye Package:
  • Boring
  • Cheap
  • Dull
  • Unattractive
  • Cluttered (Too many fonts)
  • Childish
 Aesthetic Arrest = Immediate Response

This is due to us only having 5/10/20 seconds to bring keywords to our head.
This is why also market research is good due to putting your work in the eyes of your audience and not other designers as it can counteract the level of subjectivity within the studio.

Aesthetic rules
Hard to agree with a set of rules due tp the subjectivity within this task also the ease to see something aesthetically with some one the same is not necessarily for the same reasons.

Then we had to lower it to 3 of our own aesthetic rules:

  • Space should be used to an advantage.
  • The colour palette must be appropriate to its given context.
  • The media used must be appropriate & well executed.
This is very apparent to my aesthetic rules as a dislike as the media used is not well executed and doesn't match the message very well. Also, The colour palette has no continuity and is very confusing to the eye. Finally, the space has not been used to its advantage due to the composition been very boring and simple when they could have done something very extravagant.

This is apparent to my aesthetic rules as one that i do like which is true as this media is very organic and well used due to the nature of the message. They have used earthy materials which is the whole message about animals and protecting the planet. The space has been used effective i like how they have used to stock within the image, and creates an interesting image. Then finally, the colour scheme is dark but the stock has brightened it up i like how they have used a mixture of tones within the brown as then it makes it more interesting.

Task

Space should be used to an advantage

This font i like due to the use of the negative space to read the letters. The Block colours make it easier to distinguish between the letter and easier to read.

This is a very clever idea. I like the use of the white and black lettering placed with making the kerning less so that you can distinguish the letters from the counters of the letters.

I like how this logo created two pictures out of one. The snooty connoting the face expression she looks very posh and conserved and then the peacock within the negative space. Therefore showing a high brid meaning.

The main focus in this photography is the sky which is also the negative space within the picture its very atmospheric and creates a create focus & background.

This is a jewellery design using surface area within its design. I like how it has been done in the sense of only been able to see it if you look at it from different perspectives.

This is very interesting table which is very contemporary it is using is non used space as shelves and therefore putting its negative space to good use.

http://pinterest.com/pin/248260998178441525/
This is a sculpture i like how they have created a a see through sculpture where you can see though to the others side and the design is created so it shows throughout the insides of the sculpture.

This is a very light textile that i found with shows the use of negative space. I like the fragile pattern of this piece. The light that would be let through would emphasis the negative space.

The colour pallet should be appropriate to given context

This piece uses a very earthly colour palette and the colours show gradient and is simple shapes in block colour. The background is a very light colour to make the picture more vibrant in the foreground.

The use of the yellow is very strong for the use of the branding of the banana bird, I like how they have only used a darker yellow to bring out the logo. The yellow is darker and therefore they have only used the colour on the underneath part of the banana but that is enough for us to make out the image of the banana.

This here is packaging for branding and i like how they use different colour for different products that are related to the product. For example the brown for the chocolate they have used different colours within the tone of the brown.

I like how they have brought the outdoors inside in this interior design. The natural wood is used which is also something that comes from the outside. And the plants been brought in as decoration.

http://pinterest.com/pin/209839663858399311/
This photography has been focusing on the different colours of the shell rather than the shape etc... I like how many colours are portrayed and they have captured the real beauty of colour within this shot.

http://pinterest.com/pin/209839663858399311/

This is an installation to brighten up the outside of a building. The flowers are plastic and so is the trunk holding it up. But the purpose itself is to brighten up the outside and has done very well. You look at it and smile, it brightens up your day.

This is a box designed for the packaging of nut.com. the company its self is very much about recycling and like to keep things very eco friendly therefore has only been used in a very eco background colour and a two print.

This edited photo has been edited to bring out the main colour and purpose of this photo. The colour in the sunflowers really stand out as it is true to a sunflower and no saturation or hue has been edited.

The media used must be appropriate & well executed

The media of this is how they have branded there shop. I like how they have created little bag to put the products in. And how they package the products up. I like how they have used natural materials. These are very appropriate for the products they sell.

http://pinterest.com/pin/361484307560334303/
I like how they have used a jigsaw to advertise the solution. As they all join your problems and create a different solutions. I like the use of colour as well as they use of colour overlapping and making other colours.

http://pinterest.com/pin/253960866457945081/
This is the demographics of social media and therefore all facts and figures. The use of inforgraphs is very well for this solution. I like how they have made the information more interesting and used colour to mainly show the answers.

Non-graphic Design Examples:

I like the use of printing onto material for the the main purpose of this illustration is the patterns on the material and therefore will be looking at its best if the patterns are printed onto materials. The colours are very subtle and the texture of the material is still been able to see.

http://pinterest.com/pin/6755468160753631/
The same idea here too i like how they have used inks to be dripped onto materials then the string overlapped. The material is stretched across a canvas and only a small picture which is related to the media as this this a abstract material as its an abstract fine art.

http://pinterest.com/pin/101964379032916338/
The use of the quiling is appropriate media for the heart as it a delicate media in the same way so is your heart a delicate muscle. The flowing motion is well portrayed with the notion of love running through.

http://pinterest.com/pin/134615476332312268/
The media of using clay is a natural material which is same as the body and therefore well matched. The media is well crafted and shows great detail. Its appropriate and i like how hey have left it natural and not painted over it which is the way that the women's body should be.

http://pinterest.com/pin/1900024813790378/
This is also been created through lot of different medias therefore know as mixed media th use of water colours on material you can see the brush strokes and gives it a wichy washy colour. Also the use of wax so you can paint over it and it will not apply itself to that point.
