Book- What ever you think, think the opposite!

If you are struggling to get an idea, have a break & go back with fresh eyes. Even look out of the window & then make what ever you see fit the brief. Then you have a solution to your problem.

Don't seek praise, seek Criticism
Ask "What are the problems" "What doesn't work"
There is no use in asking "Is it good?"
Can you find any faults with this? They will then have to think about it rather than just nodding their heads.
ASK LEADING QUESTIONS

Don't give a speech give a show
When you present don't just talk as people will find it hard to remember. Present what you have done in an interactive way.

Astonish Me!
Not just good visuals.

If you can't solve a problem, it's because your playing by the rules.
Think outside the box.

Make sure you develop your work.
Take on board your criticism
Listen & develop dramatically
Make the first stage unrecognisable compared to the finished product.

Showing work
When showing work rather than just showing a grid mock up the real look of the product. How it will stand etc...
Put it in situe in a rough sketch.

Make links with people with other skill sets
3D software skills, photography, illustration.
Then you can always use there skills when you don't know how to do something, a favour you can return.

Building up map skills rather than mocking up the design professionally
To mock up the actual thing it may cost couple of hundred pounds, but if you learn mapping skills it will give a similar effect and therefore cost effective.

Going an extra mile.
Show how you can take it on a longer periods & use through other medias if you think another is more appropriate etc...
If they ask for a website, don't just show it on a computer screen show how it would look on an iPad too.
